Charleston Live: Diaspoura, Contour, and Mechanical River at Charleston Music Hall

The Charleston Music Hall is thrilled to present our new series: “Charleston LIVE.” This series will be a bi-monthly series showcasing the city and region’s best bands and musicians. Each artist will play a 30-minute set with a short Q and A after their set with a community leader. This series seeks to present a unique experience to the audience, as we build a conversation about what inspires the bands and artists to create. These hard working musicians can be seen in bars, clubs, and venues throughout Charleston and The Southeast, and we want to celebrate them as well as present them to new audiences while uncovering the stories behind the music. Each show will have a unique host who will lead us through the evening. If we had to make a comparison, think Grande Ole Opry meets VH1 Behind the Music. Come out and celebrate the music that make Charleston great as well as hopefully learn about some new artists performing in your city.

Diaspoura is an electroacoustic DIY artist based in Charleston, SC. Building from South Carolina chill-wave lineage Toro Y Moi and Washed Out, her music exudes an ethereal energy but with a socio-political grounding that creates both a new sound and story for the South. She currently performs around the South East either solo or with a slick 5-piece band. Having self-produced and self-released her debut album Demonstrations last summer, Diaspoura already has been cited by national feminist publications Bitch! Media and BUST Magazine as an artist to watch.

Contour is an experimental producer/songwriter. His most recent project "Softer" is an exploration in R&B with an emphasis on audience interpretation. He and his band will be showcasing work from this project among other music

Mechanical River is a music. If you can remember the first time a flower bloomed like a supernovae in your heart then you can contextualize how quaint it can be to hear such music as is played within typical genre sounds for the time of your life. After realizing that Mechanical River could make the music, Mechanical River started to play shows and record some of these songs, AND can be found at
