Hue Feel Me?!

[Red Series]

We’re back again with another dose of Hue Feel Me, the colourful look at music videos and moods. To finish out the primary colours, we’re bring out the most loved of the trio: Red.

The color of extremes. Passion, deep love, seduction, violence, danger, anger, and adventure. Our ancestors saw red as the color of fire and blood – energy and primal life forces – also as a symbol of purity and good luck. Red is considered a magical and religious color. It symbolized super-human heroism to the Greeks and is the color of the Christian crucifixion. Red was almost as rare and as expensive as purple in ancient days – a fact that may explain its magic and power.

Different shades of this exciting hue also have different meanings. Light red symbolizes joy, sexuality, passion, sensitivity and love. Pink signals romance, love and friendship. In addition, it highlights the female qualities and encourages passivity. Dark red is associated with energy, willpower, rage, anger, leadership, courage, longing and evil. Reddish brown is associated with harvest and autumn, and the brownish color highlights the masculine qualities.

Red is the color associated with the root chakra, the first and most physical chakra. If at any time we feel ungrounded or lazy, seeing or wearing red is an immediate boost. It is the chakra that holds our instinct, safety, family, values and a connection to the tangible world.

Check out some of our favourite red hued videos below and vibe to the lusty, grounding feels!

Amerie- Why Dont We Fall In Love.

The ultimate summer jam! Aside from Amerie putting on for the little booty girls (we ouchea!) and her skin being EXTRA poppin against the color, the red in the video is the perfect backdrop for summer. It's just a feel good, lovey but not mushy, two stepping at the block party with ya boo type of video that no summer is complete without.

Vic Mensa- U Mad

Does this even need an explanation? Red = anger, and they made anger look cool. The hue also translated to adventure and danger, making their outbursts seem like power plays instead of temper tantrums. That's art.

Christina, Mya, Lil Kim & Mya - Lady Marmalade

WHEW. Talk about sexy! This remake of the LaBelle Classic got an extra dose of girl power and seduction with this crew. That red screamed sexuality, power and respect! AND DO YOU SEE THE QUEEN B LOOKING LIKE A MILL?! Sheesh.

Jay Rock- The Ways

Red in the strip club, it's like the perfect marriage. Lust and seduction go hand in hand as Jay Rock collides his signature color with a bodacious visual, filled with smoke swirls and thick thighs. It really gets no better.

Alicia Keys and Maxwell- Fire We Make

Ok so admittedly, this video makes me a little flustered. The lighting is dim and slightly yellow, but it's the pops of intentional red that gets the temperature rising. It's ever so slight but purposeful. The way the red on the bed stands out, or the little red lights in the back of the club that hit Alicia’s face just right, it's enough to make you go find your own sticks and get to making some fire. Not to mention the way she's rubbing that ice in agony...we would too if we were that close to Maxwell.

Big Sean- Paradise

This video screams Boss. That's paradise right? Sean, in true form, let us get a little dose of his dream world with pops of fire engine red back dropped by blue for the ultimate Money Power Respect video.

B2K- Bump Bump Bump

This was one of the first transitional videos for this early 200’s boy band, bringing us swooning adolescence to hormonal young adults real quit! The tomato red coupled with the shiny black against that brown skin in this video was definitely used for seduction and danger, in the best way. Had our little behinds singing “La dadada dadada dadada” with all the passion we could muster.
