ONE YEAR OF THE ILLEST VIBES
We launched this site, at 3 pm on March 9, 2016.
By the time you read this, we’ll be exactly 24 hours away from our 1 year anniversary. If you don't think we’re crying, you obviously don't know us (or you might know Mira, Mira doesn't cry. Thug Life.)
This past year has been, by far, one of the scariest, most exhilarating years of our lives. 9 years are like that (2+0+1+6), they'll make you grow out of everything you thought you knew so you can become the person you're meant to be. Ill Vibe The Tribe has been a huge part of that for each of us. We’ve been out of our comfort zones the entire year, being pushed by the universe into spaces that we felt like we weren't ready for. Honestly, we didn't expect to get this much love, so fast. We were just three college friends who wanted to bring more fun to our art scene, and we were willing to take our time putting in work. The universe was like ha! That's cute. Ready or not, y'all gon get this work. And work we have been doing.
Since March 9th 2016 we have curated, collaborated with and/or branded 13 events, each one happening organically and without force. We never thought to follow any rules of social media gurus or brand strategists, we’ve honestly just been doing what we like. We tell people all the time, “we’re just winging it!”, and while it's half joke there's still some truth in it. Nobody is 100% ready for anything, but sometimes you've really just got to get ready on the spot. You've got 3 Virgo Jupiters in this mix, who are used to planning everything to the T. We’re natural stress workers, but we had to learn how to take care of ourselves in the process. We had to learn how to blend business with friendship, how check each other without seeming bossy, how to manage our 9-5s, relationships, and personal endeavors with coparenting this baby. I'm not saying it's been easy, but it's been worth it.
If you take anything away from us, let it be these 3 things (we like 3s):
Stay genuine. Just do what you like and the things that are meant for you will come in abundance. Don't worry about pleasing other people.
Don't let the fear of being inexperienced stop you from trying. Everyone has to start somewhere, and you can't get experience unless you start. So just do it! Research, study, develop your craft, but you can do all that while you're in the game. Don't sit on the sidelines waiting for things to happen for you. Make things shake.
If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready. We believe in keeping a bag packed by the door, a planner on us at all times, and a business card handy. We’ve finally figured out a good one sentence pitch, and our brains are always moving. We might not think we’re ready, but we damn sure won't let anybody know that.
Thank you, for 1 Year of the Illest Vibes. Y'all are the Illest Tribe, and you're more than any 3 little country girls could ask for. Whether you've been on the journey with us since before the launch (S/o to KJ, this is all you!), or you just got on board this week, you're family. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, and we apologize in advance for all the damage we’re about to do. Year 2 is not a game, we’re going Full Ali & coming for what's ours! We have a 4th girlboss on the team (our lovely music fairy PoppyNative) and we’re only going to keep growing. We hope you'll keep rocking with us as we do our part to build this indie scene. If you're in Charleston this weekend come celebrate with us this Saturday at Purple Buffalo as we pay homage to Missy Elliot and all the other bad ass women (and fellas) of the late 90’s/early 2000’s with our SupaDupaFly Gala! If you can't make it, you can always support by purchasing one of our very limited Anniversary T’s. If you can't do either, just play Tony Toní Tone! and tell us happy anniversary. We’ll take that too :) Again, we love you and thank you for 365 of your vibes. Stay Ill.
