2016 will forever go down in history...
As the year putting it in rice didn't even work. We’ve taken some major L’s, we’ve lost too many cultural icons to count, we’ve seen the justice system fail over and over (a reality tv star is our president for Christ’s sake.) But for all of those lows, we’ve had some hella high highs. We’ve had some of the most blackety black albums and art since heaven knows when, open conversations about mental health and stigmas, a resurgence in entrepreneurship and community and the highest number of minority members of the House and Senate (most of them women!) since...forever. It's been lit...kinda. Which is to be expected in a 9 year.
In numerology, 9 is for transformations, revelations, beginnings and endings, which explains why this roller coaster of a year has been both exhilarating and exhausting. Here at IllVibeTheTribe, we’re choosing to take a step back and remember the good times. As artists and creatives, too often we get stuck focusing on what we didn't do instead of all we accomplished, too busy dwelling on what we lost instead of realizing how dope it's been to be alive and experience all this. We are moving into the Age of Aquarius, and the universe is shifting right before our eyes. We have to be grateful for the end of an era, and move into this new year with nothing but light. So what you didn't finish the album this year. How many shows did you perform? Who cares if you didn't write a poem a week? You still wrote and it was still beautiful. Don't waste time giving energy to things that never were. Today is the Winter solstice, the longest day of the year, and it's the perfect time to reflect and be grateful for everything 2016 has been to us.
Did you start a business this year? Fall in love, see a new country, get something published? We want to know! Tweet us, or comment on Facebook or Instagram and let us know what you're grateful for before 2017. We’ll be sharing ours on our social media until the ball drops. Thank you all for making our first year one of the best. We’ve only been in the game for 9 months and it's been amazing, we couldn't have done any of this without you. Happy Holidays, from our Tribe to yours, we love you.
